Our Journey With Richmond American

Our family first became familiar with Richmond American in June of 2009. I had recently changed jobs and could now afford to purchase a home for my family. We decided to start shopping around for both used homes and new homes and came across a Richmond community that we absolutely loved.

Right across the street from the Richmond community was another awesome community that was developed by another builder. My father, who is in the construction industry, quickly talked us out of doing business with the other builder due to the poor quality of their homes. He didn’t have an opinion about Richmond American so we decided to look into building a home with them.

We first became acquainted with Richmond on a Saturday when we visited one of their elegant model homes and met with one of their sales agents. Our first meeting with them was awesome! The model home was amazing and the sales agent knew her stuff cold. We were very impressed with everything that we saw and everything that we were told. The next day, we brought out my parents to check out the model home and they were both impressed as well. Honestly, this is the first time I think I have ever seen my dad not have a problem with a home on the first walk thru. To me, this was a huge indicator that Richmond was a quality builder and that we should move forward with the home building process.

One week later, we gave Richmond our $1,000 earnest money deposit and began the long, painful journey of dealing with the worst builder we could have imagined. In my experience with Richmond American, everything from the construction of the model home (the model was built way better than the home we are currently living in) to the sales pitch we recieved on our first visit was just a bunch of smoke and mirriors to hide everything we were about to experience with this crappy company.

This site is going to be a journal of each and everyone of our problems we have dealt with throughout the  building process and also now that we are in our home. We are also going to have others in our community who have had major issues with Richmond American share their experiences and problems as well.

Our goal is two fold…

1. To convince you to not build with Richmond American so you don’t have to deal with their terrible homes and their terrible customer service.
2. If you decided that Richmond American is all you can afford or if you decide that they aren’t all that bad, we want you to know everything we have gone through so you can avoid the same problems and deal with them before you are stuck with a home you wish you had not purchased.
